His writing journey began early in his life. He wrote a poem for an assignment at Baileyton Middle School which made its way to the library wall for many people to enjoy. This gave him a sense of accomplishment, and he knew he had a talent that people enjoyed. He realized he needed to share the talent God had given to him.

Inspired by music of all kinds, poetry, and books, he began letting his imagination roam. He has attended many poetry symposiums and won trophies, wall plaques, a bronze medal, and a Poetry Gold Medal of Excellence.

His love for crafting stories and poems eventually led to formal training with both the Long Ridge Writers’ Group and the Institute of Children’s Literature. He deepened his understanding of storytelling and refined his craft. This helped him be a purposeful, well-disciplined author.

McAmis’ first book, “INTRUDER: A HORRIFYING, POETIC TALE,” a gripping, fast-paced adventure about a modern wizard’s quest for immortality, started his professional journey. The book blended poetry, fantasy, and horror, earning five-star praise for its haunting rhythm and originality. He was acclaimed as an author unafraid of experimenting with genre and form.

His second book, “ALL THIS STRESS,” a children’s picture book, lets us see this highly stressful world through the eyes of De-Stress, an adorable seven-year-old. It is a humorous and heartfelt book, enjoyed by children and adults, that we can all learn something from. This book showed McAmis’ ability to connect with readers of all ages.

“A GLORIFYING, POETIC TALE: DIVINE INTERVENTION AND A U.F.O.,” his newest book, highlights his poetic, faith-filled storytelling. Readers experience divine intervention from a Heavenly Angel in this wonderful, rhymed adventure. A normal day on the farm turns into chaos as a U.F.O. hovers, beams light down, and a Heavenly Angel intervenes. It is a miraculous, divine intervention when the angel flies up to the U.F.O. and captures an obviously mean alien. ABOUT THE BOOK

A GLORIFYING, POETIC TALE: DIVINE INTERVENTION AND A U.F.O. by M. L. McAmis is an imaginative and unique fusion of science fiction, rhyme, and spirituality. What begins as a normal day on the farm turns into wonder when a U.F.O. appears and casts a beam of light over the land.

The farmer is drawn to the beam of light, and his curiosity takes him in search of what it is beaming down or up. He runs to it. A being is found that he cannot explain.

He is unsure of what stands before him. He goes back to the safety of his house. A little while later, he realizes the being has followed him into the house.

The farmer does tentative gestures and attempts to communicate. They begin to bridge the strange gap between worlds. They understand one another.

A little while later, the U.F.O. returns. This time it brings a revelation that transcends earthly understanding. Right in front of the humble farmer, the visitor transforms into a radiant Heavenly Angel. Its brilliance was so powerful it almost blinds him with beauty. Its wings unfurl, light erupts, and a celestial battle begins as the Angel flies up and pulls an obviously menacing alien from the U.F.O. Their struggle comes crashing down to the ground. It’s a clash of shadow, divine purpose, and light. The Angel wins the battle and puts the alien in a cage that the farmer had in the barn.

What makes this book particularly engaging is McAmis’ use of rhyme and rhythm. The poetic form not only makes the narrative accessible to readers of different ages but also adds a lyrical, almost musical quality to the storytelling. This enhances the sense of wonder, turning the story into more than just a battle between angel and alien. It becomes a celebration of faith, protection, and victory through divine grace.

One of the book’s greatest strengths lies in its tone and message. Though it features elements of science fiction, flying saucers, aliens, and a cosmic confrontation, at its heart, this is a story about faith, courage, and the enduring power of divine grace. McAmis doesn’t pit science against belief; rather, he unites them in a playful, inspiring way that emphasizes the idea of divine guardianship in all situations, even those that defy logic. The poem’s simplicity makes it accessible, but its symbolism offers a deeper reflection for those who seek it.

McAmis’ rhymed verse carries the rhythm of revelation. Each line pulses with sincerity, transforming simple words into spiritual resonance. Beneath the rhyme lies a deeper code, one that speaks to modern readers about the eternal tension between faith and fear, light and technology, divinity and disconnection. The poem feels as though it’s been whispered through time, a bridge between biblical parable and cosmic myth.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH M. L. MCAMIS

You discovered your gift early when a school poem found its place on a library wall. Do you remember what that moment awakened in you as a young writer?

That moment awakened a new way for me to see my writing talent. I realized then that I could write quality poetry that people truly enjoyed. Seeing my work displayed gave me a deep sense of accomplishment and stirred a mixture of emotions. It was one of the first times I felt confident that writing was something meaningful I was meant to pursue.

You often speak of writing as a talent entrusted by God. How does faith shape your creative responsibility as an author?

I know that I, and everyone, will eventually stand before God and be judged for what we did with what we were given. Knowing this, and knowing, not just thinking, that I write wonderful stories, shapes my responsibility as an author. It reminds me to use my talent with care, honesty, and purpose, and to never take the gift lightly.

Music, poetry, and literature all inspire your imagination. How do these art forms influence the rhythm and emotional tone of your storytelling?

When I write, edit, and format poetic tales, it feels like there is a rhythmic song playing across the pages. Music, poetry, and literature blend together naturally, weaving through each line and dancing through every page. They help guide the emotional flow of the story and give the words a life and movement of their own.

Your work moves freely between poetry, fantasy, horror, faith, and children’s literature. What draws you to cross genres instead of remaining within one?

I am very experimental with literature, and I enjoy pushing creative boundaries. At this point in my journey, I am almost completely unafraid of mixing genres. I believe each story deserves to be told in the way that feels most natural to it, without limits or restrictions.

Intruder introduced readers to your fearless experimentation with form and mood. What risks were you most aware of while writing that book?

The risks I was most aware of were the point of view and the possibility of people being angry with me as the author. I wanted readers to clearly understand that the black magic and insane greed portrayed in the story were not things to admire or pursue. I wrote it as a warning, showing how destructive those choices can be.

All This Stress shows your gentle, humorous understanding of childhood emotion. What did writing for children teach you about simplicity and truth?

Stress is something adults understand, but children often don’t know how to deal with it, and honestly, many adults don’t either. Writing this book reminded me how important it is to explain difficult emotions in simple, honest ways. It’s a little funny, but it’s also very truthful, and that balance is important.

Your latest book blends divine intervention with poetic adventure. What message of hope or faith were you most eager to transmit through this story?

The message I most wanted to transmit was hope and faith. God is always watching, even when we sometimes let our faith slip away for a bit. He has many ways of intervening when it is needed. I want readers to remember to keep the faith and to know that there is always hope.

You have earned many literary awards and recognitions. Which achievement felt most personally meaningful to you, and why?

Before this opportunity by Voraka Magazine, the most personally meaningful achievement for me was being featured in a respected international publication through an author interview and book article. This recognition was incredibly special to me and gave me a great sense of accomplishment. Being featured by Voraka now feels equally wonderful and deeply meaningful.

Formal training refined your discipline as a writer. How important is structure in balancing creativity and imagination?

Structure is very important to me as a writer. Having structure helps all of my thoughts come together and allows creativity and imagination to work in harmony. It turns scattered ideas into something focused, purposeful, and truly beautiful.

You describe your stories as unforgettable. What do you believe makes a story linger in a reader’s heart long after the final page?

Sometimes a story stays with a reader because it’s something they can truly relate to on a personal level. Other times, it’s because they loved it so deeply that it becomes unforgettable. Either way, when a story connects emotionally, it tends to remain in the heart for a long time.

As both an artist and poet, how do you visually imagine your stories before they become words?

It happens in different ways for me. Sometimes I see the characters clearly in my head, almost like they’re acting everything out. Other times, I imagine character descriptions and story outlines first, and then slowly bring them onto the page as the story takes shape.

If your younger self were reading your books today, what do you hope he would feel proud of?

I think my younger self would be proud of how far I’ve come on this writing journey. He would see a disciplined, very creative writer who isn’t afraid to experiment with different genres. That growth and dedication would mean a lot to him.
